The Deanery

The Benefice falls within the Bradford Deanery which comprises parishes in and around the towns of Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon and Melksham

The annual Chapter programme places a strong emphasis on social events, helping to build strong relationships amongst local clergy and encourage cross-boundary working.

The Synod meets three times a year and on each occasion we try to tackle a subject of practical interest to parishes in their mission and to share good ideas and practice and consider news and developments in the Diocese and the wider Church.

The current Deanery plan (2017) identifies the following objectives and tasks:

to renew hope among our church communities;

to commit to growing our churches in number and depth;

to build up ordained and lay vocations;

to affirm cohesion within groups and across the Deanery;

to encourage churches to offer support to each other;

to work closely ecumenically;

to extend the presence of the Church in schools and in the workplace;

to establish further youth groups within the Deanery;

to develop further the relationship with the Kadugli Diocese in the Sudan;

to consider provisions for new housing estates;

to ensure our buildings are welcoming, flexible and available to the community;

to encourage parishes to develop plans for outreach.
